Hey guys to kick off Team Venom Media Anime page, I thought we should look at where in the UK you can legally watch Anime. There has never been a better time to be Anime fan or easier time to start your Anime journey with a host of places where you can Legally watch or stream some of truly greatest Anime. We’ve taken the time to review each method and we hope this makes choosing where to watch Anime easier based on individual needs.
Cartoon Network/Toonami and/Or Bravo/Adultswim
One of the first sources for Anime on UK television and most likely where most modern UK fans started to become Anime Fans was Cartoon Network, airing now legendary shows such as Dragonball Z, Pokemon, BeyBlade, Sailor Moon, Voltron and many others. Cartoon Network’s late night adult programming show Adult Swim introduced audiences to the more Mature Animes available from Japan with shows, such as Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist, Cowboy Bebop and many other fantastic series. Toonami has kept this tradition alive and still is great source for Anime to many a viewer, with the next generation of Animes including Dragonball Super and My Hero Academia, as does Adult Swim with the more adult shows, including the latest Sword Art Online, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure and Demon Slayer. With even better news for those with out Cable or Sky subscription as part of Adult Swims partnership with Channel All 4 On Demand over 100 hours of Anime including classic shows such as Kill a Kill and Gurren Lagann as well as modern shows such as Meglobox and Sword Art Online.
Rating: 3 Stars
I have very fond memories of both Cartoon Network and Adult Swim and all though it is easy to access it lacks a library when compared to the Top Streaming sites.
Netflix
Pretty much everyone in UK has access to Netflix account whether be their own, a member of the family a close friend possibly even an ex partner but at the end of the day pretty much everyone has access. Netflix is great place to start when it comes to Anime with some classic titles at their disposal as well as their own emerging series for viewers to enjoy. Some of Classic Anime Titles which Netflix play host to include, Deathnote, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Yu-Gi-Oh, Steins Gate and Gunslinger Girl. On top of these titles Netflix have produced a host of critically aclaimed Anime series such as Seven Deadly Sins, Violet Evergarden, Last Hope and Little Witch Academia.
Rating: 3 and Half Stars
Although Netflix does boast an impressive catalogue of classic Anime series many are not available in English and this can turn off newer viewers, as for their own series they tend to lean towards to edgier side as well of lesser known Manga titles for their inspiration.
Crunchyroll
Crunchyroll really taken off in the last for years as the premiere place for Anime fans to come and see not only classic content but to actually keep up to date of the latest releases over in Japan a mere couple weeks form when they first air for non subscribers and even sooner for those that do subscribe to channel as they are able to see shows only and hour or two later from when they first aired in Japan. Titles included are Food Wars, Demon Slayer, One Punch Man, Attack on Titan in fact all in all Crunchyroll boasts over 900 Anime shows with only one drawback which is they only available with Subtitles.
Rating: 4 Stars
When it comes to library of content no one can come close to Crunchyroll however unless you a staunch and avid follower of Anime you are likely to be put off by the fact that none of the shows have English Dub.
Funimation
Funimation is the most recent of Anime streaming site in the UK only being launched a few years ago, Funimation the largest producer of English Dub Anime over in the states and have recently moved into the UK Market most recently buying out Manga Ltd in the UK. After fixing the few bugs it had from its first release and its ever expanding catalogue of titles it really has become the premiere place to watch the latest Anime all in English Dub thanks to their trademark Simuldub where it releases titles in full English Dub a few days or at most a few days after they first Air in Japan. Titles include My Hero Academia, Fire Force, Dr Stone, Black Clover and many more.
Rating: 4 and Half Stars
This is great place to watch Anime whether you a newbie or life long fan, with its access to so many great titles all available in English dub. Its only drawback is the App is not available on as many platforms as Crunchroll currently.
