Ok, so we live in an era where every year a new classic or mini console gets released featuring several hits from the consoles heyday. We've seen the NES and SNES Classics from Nintendo (with the SNES being hailed as the best classic console so far thanks to Street Fighter II, Super Mario World and Final Fantasy 3/6), Sega drop the Mega Drive classic and Sony release the PlayStation classic featuring Metal Gear Solid, Tekken 3 and Final Fantasy 7 among other PSX hits. So with that being said here's my list of 5 games I would love to see bundled in with a PlayStation 2 Classic, should it ever arise.
Honourable Mentions: Tomb Raider: Legend, Rayman 3, Bloody Roar 3, Kingdom Hearts,
#5. Timesplitters
Oh man, this game defined multiplayer shenanigans throughout my teenage years. Me and several friends would design our own maps, slap them on a memory card then meet up and kick the crap out of each other on them. Great times! The campaign was cool too and the addition of bots on the multiplayer led to endless fun. I miss this franchise. It's genuinely perplexing that it never hit the PS3 or PS4.
#4. Metal Gear Solid 2
As mentioned the other week, MGS2 is my favourite instalment of the series. The opening tanker section of the game was used to showcase how awesome a PS2 could be prior to the consoles original release so it would only make sense for it to be included here.
#3. Final Fantasy X
Sure, there has been a HD re-release for both the PS3 and PS4 but that's not enough, dammit!!! Like FF7 on the PSX, FFX was the definitive Final Fantasy for its general and an omission on a classic console collection would be a sin.
#2. Shadow of Memories
This game is probably one of the greatest titles to ever hit the PS2 and should have been remade twice over by now... It's that good! The premise of the game was that you were murdered and a demon would allow you to time travel to prevent your murder. You could travel hundreds of years in to the past or just slightly by a few days or hours and there were hundreds of endings tied to this game. Can't get past a certain wall? Head back a hundred years and convince the townsfolk not to build it and hey presto, no wall in present day!
#1. Tekken Tag Tournament
Tekken is indeed the king of fighters (or it was, at least, at the time of the PS2) and the first Tekken Tag Tournament was a dream come true for someone like myself who had followed the games up until that point. Playing Tekken 3 you couldn't help but think of dream matches between Tekken 3 and Tekken/Tekken 2 characters but Tag Tournament allowed all of that. Want to see Jin bitch slap his father? No problem! Want to see Devil take on Ogre? Go for it! Marshall vs Forest Law? Sure thing! Tekken Tag Tournament was a fantastic fighting game that showcased the capabilities of the PS2 perfectly at the time and should be on any of these lists for a PS2 classic.
So that's my list, thanks for taking the time to read it and please let me know what your top 5 are in the comments section!
