Top Five TV Show Comic Books

As an inverse to last week's column where I gave you guys my Top 5 Comic Book TV Shows , I figured I'd swap it around and give you my top 5 TV Show Comic Books. For the sake of this column I'm also going to include animated TV shows because it's my list and I'll do what I want.

Honourable Mentions: Arrow, Smallville Season 11, The Simpsons, Futurama

#5. Firefly

This series was cancelled way too soon - like most of Joss Whedon's TV shows - but the follow up movie, Serenity, still left some unresolved plot points. Thankfully, Joss took to the medium of comics to resolve these in a very good run.

#4. Batman: Mad Love

This was the reason for sticking animated titles in here. Mad Love was written by Brice Timm and followed his animation style that had been utilised for the 90s Batman Animated Series. This marked the first comic book appearance of Harley Quinn - who Timm created for the animated show. The story holds up as a very, very good Batman/Joker story and proved that good that Harley would go on to be incorporated into DC Comics in general.

#3. Angel: After The Fall

Another Joss Whedon cancellation led to this incredibly good comic series. The season finale of Angel saw a portal to hell open up and an army of demons and dragons pour out. Sadly, Fox cancelled the show after that point so we had no clue how Angel and co. would be able to get out of this. Thankfully, IDW stepped in and published a great story following the opening of said finale. We also saw a few mini-series tie-ins that showed what the rest of the team were up to during the battle.

#2. Batman 1960

A couple of years back, DC decided to continue a few of their TV and movie properties via comics (currently the batman animated series is being continued as an on-going series and Batman Beyond just became it's own thing over time) and their initial plan was to do the 60s Batman and then follow on from Batman Returns (which was later scrapped). The 60s series, however, kept all of the charm of the TV show and introduced a few characters that didn't appear on the show too. Definitely worth a read for any fans of the 60s show.

#1. X-Men '92

This was sooo good. Starting as part of the Secret Wars event, Marvel re-introduced the 90s X-Men comic series as one of the world's that would make up part of Secret Wars' Battleworlds. Once Secret Wars had finished, Marvel smartly continued the series and featured crossovers with the likes of the X-Men of 2099! We also saw the introduction of Cassandra Nova to the 90s animated universe which made for a nice, surprise twist. And we got more of Wolverine being a dick to Cyclops which, to me, is one of the highlights of the cartoon!
