Top 5 "Most Played" Xbox One Videogames

Updated: Oct 8, 2020

As mentioned last week, this week's top 5 will tackle the games I've played the most on the Xbox One. In fairness two entries will have been copied and pasted from there too as I have legitimately played them a hell of a lot on both systems. Here we go.

Honourable mentions: Skyrim, Fallout 4, Halo 5, Gears 4, Gears 5

#5. WWE 2K19

As a die-hard wrestling fan, I have regularly purchased every new WWE game on launch week for the last 20 years. I'd then customise the hell out of it thanks to their ever-evolving creation suite. That is, however, until WWE 2K20 came out. Since 2K20 was a broken mess whereas 2K19 was the best in the series (each title would come along in leaps and bounds until 2K20), I have ended up playing 2K19 waaay more than usual. Thankfully, the online servers are still live so I've been able to download the entire Impact roster! I have tried 20 on both the PS4 and Xbox One in the hopes that it worked on one of them but sadly it has still been a bag of shit...

#4. Final Fantasy VII

I've been playing this game annually since 1997. So that's 23 years at time of writing. The story, gameplay and entire aspect of this game are pretty much perfect and I've not found anything as good since 1997. Each time I pick up another FF title I find myself wanting to play 7 for comparison and nostalgic purposes - Even with the remake! There is one exception to that rule that I'll get to later but this game is pretty much gaming perfection and if you haven't played it yet then, goddammit, you should definitely pick it up as soon as possible! The only reason this hasn't ranked as highly in this list as the PS4 one is that the next 3 titles have dominated my time on this system.

#3. Gears of War: Ultimate Edition

Gears of War was easily the main reason I had an Xbox 360. Sadly the series peaked at number 2, but the original and it's follow up were frikking awesome! The Ultimate Edition includes a couple of extra chapters that were exclusive to the PC when the game first came out - I distinctly remember seeing adverts in various Marvel Comics at the time showcasing a brumark encounter that I desperately wanted to play but didn't want to fork put for a gaming PC for.

#2. Assassins Creed: The Ezio Collection

The story of Ezio is easily the best narrative that any era of Assassins Creed has had so far. The gameplay, graphics and locals were top notch. There hasn't been any decent stories since and while Altair was great in AC1, Ezio was pretty much the whole reason for playing an Assassins Creed game. It probably helped that there were a lot of locations used that I'd visited in my teenage years - for example when running around in Venice on AC2, it reminded me of a drunken summer I had there when I turned 17. Great times!

#1. Halo: The Master Chief Collection

For me, Halo 3 is the greatest first person shooter of all time. I had this game for my birthday in 2007 where my dad picked it up in advance at a time where these titles would literally fly off the shelf - I remember looking to get it myself a couple of days before my birthday and everywhere had sold out then having the ridiculously awesome experience of opening it on my 21st. Since this was before Xbox live was a major force, this game became the main thing that myself and my then best friend Brad would play religiously every weekend while eating pizza and drinking beer for the better part of a year until we got better internet, which is when the online side of Halo 3 dominated everything. ODST, Reach and 4 were nowhere near as good in my eyes so finding this gem on an Xbox One has pretty much dominated all of my online gameplay this generation.

So that's my list, thanks for taking the time to read it and please let me know what your top 5 are in the comments section!
