An Interview with Justin “The Hammer” Sysum (The Six-Step Process)

The Six-Step Process is a regular interview that we ran on both the Team Venom website and Team Venom Magazine and will run on this website on a regular basis. Basically we ask the same 6 questions in a kind of “quick-fire” interview with a random top British talent. This week’s 6-Step is with one of the UK’s top prospects, Justin “The Hammer” Sysum

1. What got you into Wrestling?

It was my friend Pete from university. I hadn’t seen him for a few years and I had been growing my hair and when he saw me again he remarked that I looked like a wrestler. That was the spark to go on a journey that I had always wondered about during my other sporting endeavours. Pro EVW Wrestling Academy is just down the road from me and I was lucky enough to meet the right people at the right time to guide me. I also attend Brookside’s School in Leicester and train with Dave Mastiff in Birmingham when I can.

2. Favourite match so far?

Simply because of the scale of it, the dark match alongside Nathan Cruz vs The Usos before WWE Smackdown taping in Liverpool November 2014. It was a massive moment for me as I am only in my third year of wrestling. A great honour to be chosen to face such an established team. Nathan was a great partner but unfortunately we lost on the night. I look forward to getting a rematch one day.

3. Who has been your favourite opponent?

Aside from the Uso’s I would have to say Nick Riley. We are good friends and had to go in there and beat the hell out of each other. Instead of coming out enemies we had a new found respect for each other. Was a real privilege and people should seek him out if he comes to a town near you.

On a side note, there are a great deal of British wrestlers working in this country who are astoundingly talented and Although Nick tops the list so far there are so many others that are high on the list.

4. What’s been your favourite town to work in?

My home town, Gloucester. Pro Evolution Wrestling runs a show at a social club there. It’s a small venue that fits about 300 and they put 300 in there. Great atmosphere and I obviously rig the crowd with plenty of friends and family. I won my first championship there and had all my favourite people there to witness it.

5. If you could work with anyone who would it be?

That’s a tough question. If I could work with anyone then I guess I would work with everyone. Is that a cop out? I don’t care, I’m the Hammer, I can do as I please.

6. What does the future hold for you?

Who Knows? I’m going to continue training and fighting to be the best I can be and if fate is on my side then I believe the sky is the limit.
