Japanese Joshi wrestling company Stardom have had to cancel several of their upcoming tour dates over the next two weeks, as a precaution after a member of the touring roster tested positive for Covid 19. Stardom chose to cancel an event that was due to take place the previous weekend, when a member of the roster, who was not even part of the tour, reported a fever and as a precautionary measure the management decided it would be best to cancel said event. Now during the most recent testing of their staff and performers, a member of their current touring roster did test positive for the virus, stardom have chosen to cancel many of their up coming events whilst the performers and staff members go into quarantine for two weeks. Below is full statement released on Twitter, from Stardom wrestling and list of dates and events which have been cancelled.
Stardom Wrestling were in the middle of their annual 5*Star Grand Prix tournament, one of the most important events on the Stardom Calendar. Many of the company’s top stars past and present have won this tournament, including Kari (Hojo) Sane, Io Shirai, and the late Hanna Kimura. The cancelling of these shows, during such an important period for the Joshi wrestling company shows the vast difference in the way Covid 19 is being handled in the east compared to that of the west. The reason these events have been cancelled and performers as well as staff have gone into quarantine as precautionary measure is to ensure the safety of all those involved including the fans. Since the global health crisis, the WWE have had at least two outbreaks of Covid but have still been moving forward with their programming, drawing criticism from fans and even members of their own roster.
