Progress Wrestling Chapter 103 Beer Snake City is tomorrow night, Sunday the 22nd of February, and looking at the card, it should be a great night of wrestling at the Electric Ballroom. The Main Event is Progress World Champion Cara Noir Vs Mark Andrews, on top of this there are two more championship matches, Tag Team Champions Jordan Devlin and Scotty Davis face off against, The Work Horsemen JD Drake and Anthony Henry, as well as Paul Robinson defending his Proteus Championship against Kyle Fletcher in what could be the match of the night.
On top of this we still have the returning Toni Storm as she teams with her long time rival Jinny to take on the Medusa complex Charli Evans and Millie McKenzie and more great matches. As part of an upcoming article 28 days of Progress wrestling, in which I binged Progress wrestling for 28 days, so keep an eye out for that, thought put me in great position to preview tomorrow nights show;
Giselle Shaw Vs Chakara
Gisele Shaw from Canada is a high flying dynamo, she recently won the RevPro Women's title and she is truly impressive with the array of top rope moves in her arsenal. Her last match in progress was at chapter 102 in triple threat match for the women's championship match against Jinny and Dani Luna, a match in which she came up short but did not get pinned.
Charkara is making her first appearance back in Progress since August 2019, in which she came up short competing in a title tournament. Charkara has a long history at progress, as a former member of the House of Couture stable. She is a solid worker in the ring but does not really stand out against some of excellent female performers on the British independent scene.
Both of these Ladies will be looking for a strong win in what is likely to be great opening match, both ladies need to get a win under their belts, as they attempt to climb the ranks of the progress women’s division.
Prediction; Giselle Shaw wins.
Ilja Draganov Vs Malik
Ilja will be looking to get back to his winning ways on progress, having come up short in several of last appearances mainly against Cara Noir and most recently to Mark Andrews, so he really needs to win to start working towards another title shot.
Malik competed in the Natural Progression Series back in September but went out in the first round falling to finalist Danny Duggan in hard hitting match. This is great match up for Malik, win or loose, as long as he is able to put in a strong performance against Ilja I am sure he’s bound to impress the Progress Ultras.
This match will likely be one of the most intense and hard hitting matches you are likely to see, a good old fashion slobber knocker as Jim Ross would say. This is dark horse of a match that could steal the show by taking many fans by suprise.
Prediction; Ilja Draganov Wins
The Anti-Fun Police with Walter Vs More Than Hype
More Than Hype are a three man group from Ireland, LJ Cleary, Darren Kearney and Nathan Martin. They have always been impressive, not unsurprisingly, coming out of the same promotion as Fin Balor and Jordan Devlin and OTT. More Than Hype need to pick up a win having not won since their debut. Last time out, at chapter 101, LJ Cleary lost to Kyle Fletcher and the designated tag team of three, Darren Kearney and Nathan Martin were beaten by Pretty Deadly.
The Anti-Fun police are actually more fun than there name would suggest and at times their matches seem more like a pantomime performance rather than a wrestling match. However when it comes down to it, Chief Deputy Dunne is excellent in the ring and as for his partner Los Federales Santos Jr, he is good big man. They had an excellent performance in a losing effort against current tag team champions Jordan Devlin and Scotty Davis in their last outing. Originally meant to be teaming with the Kiwi Buzzsaw Travis Banks, who is out due to injury, the Anti-Fun Police will be teaming with current NXT UK champion Walter.
This, I suspect will be fun a match but I also see this being more of a Pantomime match, leaning heavily on sports entertainment. I’m sure it will get its fair share of comedy spots which the Progress Ultras will eat up. Hopefully it will not be all fun games as both teams are capable of putting on good matches. I do fear the More Than Hype’s chests coming up against Walter and his chops, they’re only young lads.
Prediction; Anti-Fun Police Wins.
Jinny and Toni Storm Vs The Medusa Complex
The Medusa Complex Charli Evans and Millie McKenzie are looking to make changes in the Progress women division, they’re young and they’re hungry and they see Jinny as old so they’re looking to take her out. I am huge fan of Millie Mckenzie, she is excellent, well what do you expect when you’re trained by the Bruiserweight. Suplex Millie as she called, is a future star. I have not seen much of Charli Evans but I am aware that as pair they have been making waves in Japan as part of the Sendai Girls promotion.
Jinny is a Progress original and has always played a heel, but Progress have been trying to make her a face and not just a face but the face of female division, so far this hasn’t quite worked with progress ultras not getting behind her. Toni Storm is returning to Progress since her loss to her Dani Luna all the way back chapter 96 October 2019, she is back to help her old rival as another progress original.
It should be a decent enough match, all the participants have spent time in Japan, except for Jinny, and will be bringing that Japanese strong style to the match, especially Millie and Toni.
Prediction the Medusa Complex steal a victory.
Tag Team Championship Match
Jordan Devlin and Scotty Davis Vs The WorkHorseman
The team of Devlin and Davis have been on fire ever since Scotty Davis won the Natural Progression and cash in his championship match opportunity, inserting himself and his mentor Jordan Devlin into a tag team championship match, which they won. Both of these guys are just amazing, they are both just so crisp with everything they do in ring, is to much to ask that they join forces with Finn Balor in NXT to make the ultimate faction?
I do not know much about the WorkHorsman, JD Drake and Anthony Henry are former Evolve champions and are a decorated and cohesive tag team, having been working as team on the American Indy Scene.
Honestly I don’t think it is possible for either Jordan Devlin or Scotty Davis to have a bad match, they are just that good, no matter who they are up against, they always have a classic match, this is one of the matches I am most looking forward to seeing.
Prediction Jordan Devlin and Scotty Davis win, retaining the titles
Proteus Championship Match
Champion Paul Robinson Vs Kyle Fletcher
Paul Robinson has been on a roll in progress wrestling, but ever since he won the Proteus Championship title, he has been on an even more incredible run. He has successfully defended his title in some truly amazing encounters against the likes of; Timothy Thatcher, A Kid, Chris Ridgeway, William Eaver and Travis Banks.
Kyle Fletcher makes up one half of the top tag teams in Progress: Aussie Open, but with his partner Mark Davis currently out with an injury, Kyle Fletcher has had to go it alone as of late. Kyle Fletcher has adopted a much darker persona recently, in an effort to help him stand alone in matches and this has been matched with a more aggressive in ring style. Kyle managed to pick up a win in last singles match back at chapter 101 over LJ cleary that saw him enter the main event fatal 4 way elimination match later that evening.
This is a bit of an unusual championship match, as it was the champion Paul Robinson, who sent out a challenge to the challenger. During the Chapter 101 main event fatal 4 way elimination championship match it was Kyle Fletcher who eliminated Paul Robinson thus leading to this match up. The Proteus Championship is great title and concept, in which the holder of title picks the stipulation in which the belt will be defended during their reign, Paul Robinson’s stipulation is the title can only be won by either KO or submission. This means no pinfalls or disqualifications, unless the belt it self is used as weapon. This stipulation has led to some fantastic match up styles and I cannot see this match being any different, it has the potential to steal the show. This would not be the first time a match containing Paul Robinson and Kyle Fletcher could steal the show, they tore the house down in several tag team matches between of the Swords of Essex and Aussie Open tag teams respectively.
Prediction: Kyle Fletcher wins title in an upset.
World Championship Match
Champion Cara Noir Vs Mark Andrews
Cara Noir won the Progress World championship in the fatal 4 way elimination match back at Chapter 101. He was originally slated to face then champion Eddie Dennis, who had to vacate the championship title, leading to the fatal 4 way. Cara Noir had earned his way to No 1 Contender after a series of matches with Ilja Draganov and after an impressive performance in the Natural Progression series where he was semi finalist, losing to eventual winner Scotty Davis. Cara Noir is an incredible performer with his entrance and in ring style. He is also one of the only modern wrestlers who uses an actual gimmick with a storyline.
Mark Andrews gained his opportunity partly in thanks to his FSU partner Eddie Dennis, who argued his case following a victory for Andrews over Ilja Draganov. When Eddie Dennis had to vacate the title he originally had intended to just hand over his title to Andrews, progress management put a stop to that, setting up the fatal 4 way elimination match. Mark Andrews was given a chance to be in said match, but lost his spot in a defeat to Ilja. Mark Andrews was only able to win his rematch with Ilja to earn this title shot thanks to interference by Eddie Dennis.
I do struggle to believe Mark Andrews as a heel competitor but I am sure Eddie will be there to interfere on his behalf throughout the match, I think this will be an interesting match up to say the least, Cara Noir matches are usually a spectacle to behold.
Prediction Cara Noir retains
Final Thoughts
Progress shows can be mixed bag of everything from all that is great about Independent wrestling such as incredible matches featuring young talent. But also everything that is bad about Independent wrestling such as the over use of pantomime and sports entertainment. Tomorrow’s show has couple of matches that could be amazing including all the title matches and the female tag match . They all have potential to be excellent matches. Hopefully having Walter at their side should keep the antics of the Anti-Fun police to a minimum, as whole this should be great night of wrestling. I will not be releasing winners of tomorrows card until the chapter is available on Demand Progress at which point I will do a full recap and review of the event.
