The team that brought Altered Carbon to Netflix have announced that they we be producing a live action adaptation of the popular Anime series Steins Gate. Of course Steins Gate started as a hugely popular video game released in 2009 for the X box 360 and is visual novel type game, it was actually the second game of the series following Chaos:Head. It was adapted into an anime series in 2010 because of it’s popularity and was produced by White Fox. A follow up to the original series, Steins:Gate 0 was released in 2015.
The news of the adaption to live action was first announced during an anniversary livestream for the anime series where it was a confirmed that a live-action TV series is in development at Hollywood, a teaser video was played revealing a live-action recreation of the game. The project will be overseen by Skydance Television and as of now there is little other new about the series other than it will be based on the popular Anime series.
Opinion
I loved Steins Gate, it easily ranks in my top ten favourite Animes, so I am truly excited by this news. However there is usually a lot of controversy when adapting an Anime to live action TV series, typically revolving around the whether the cast will mainly Asian or if it will be adapted to be mainly white cast. The Anime and Game take place in Japan so casting could depend if they stay true to this or move the story to take place in the USA.
