NJPW Announce Super Jr Tag Tournament

NJPW have announced a tag team tournament for the vacated Super Jr Tag Team title. The announcement came after one half of the former champions, Sho of Rapongi 3K relinquished the titles on behalf of his team after his latest match at Summer Struggle in Jingu, he announced that this was due to his tag team partner, Yoh’s knee injury which means he will be out of action until the end of this year at the earliest. This was Rapongi 3K’s second reign as champions, after winning the belts at Wrestle Kingdom 14 off of Bullet Club’s Taijiri Ishimori and El Phantasmo. Yoh and Sho had held the titles for 239 days, successfully defending the titles on two occasions prior to Yoh’s injury.

The tournament is comprised of 4 teams, Ryusuke Taguchi & Master Wato representing the Chaos Faction, Los Ingobernables de Japon’s Hiromu Takahashi & BUSHI, El Desperado & Yoshinobu Kanemaru from Suzki Gun and Bullet Club’s Taiji Ishimori & Gedo.

The 4 teams will compete in a round robin tournament with each team facing off against one another scoring 2 points for win and 1 point for a draw, the two teams with the most points will then have a final match to decide the winner of the Super Jr Tag Team titles.

The Tournament will kick off on the September 5th edition of NJPW Road and will conclude on the 11th September. You can check out all the action on NJPWWorld.com for $9.99 a month and don’t forget to catch NJPW Strong New Japans new weekly American show.
