MLW have not put on a show since the 13th of March of this year, however that’s not to say that management have not been busy behind the scenes. Having previously announced the signing of Dynasty members Richard Holliday and Alexander Hammerstone to new, long term deals. ESPN have since announced that MLW have secured the services of the current heavyweight champion and Contra Member Jacob Fatu for the immediate future.
ESPN’s Marc Raimondi reported yesterday that MLW have re-signed Jacob Fatu to a new 4 year deal that will see the current MLW heavyweight champion signed exclusively until 2025. Fatu debuted as part of Contra unit early in 2019, quickly making an impact by defeating former champion “Filthy” Tom Lawler and going on to headline MLW’s first PPV in a match against LA Park. This new deal is more exclusive than his previous contract that would see him unable to show up on AEW any time soon, unlike MJF and Pillman Jr who did not have exclusive deals, allowing them to appear for AEW and in MJF’s instance, signing for AEW prior to his MLW contact coming to an end.
Jacob Fatu is a member of the Anoa’i family dynasty, his father is the Tonga Kid and his uncle is Rikishi, making him cousins with the Uso’s and Roman Reigns. MLW CEO Caught Bauer had this to say after capturing Jacob Fatu’s signature, on MLW.com “To have Fatu locked up exclusively for what will essentially be the rest of his prime in the sport is huge for the league, the fans, Fatu and his family.”
