Impact Wrestling Homecoming 2019 Preview and Predictions

Tonight, Impact Wrestling returns to the asylum in Nashville, Tennessee for it's first PPV of 2019; Homecoming. The card is stacked and looks to be one of the best wrestling events in recent months, potentially better than Bound For Glory, so we thought we'd fire off a round table preview and offer our predictions and by "our" I mean myself, David Burston and Sarah Dennis. Let's start at the top

Impact Wrestling World Heavyweight Championship:

Johnny Impact (Champion) vs. Brian Cage

Since his debut in Impact Wrestling, Brian Cage has been an unstoppable machine. He single-handedly ended Bobby Lashley's Impact career and was undefeated until his recent loss to Sami Callihan. On the other side of this match, Johnny Impact spent most of 2018 chasing the Impact World Title and isn't going to be wanting to lose the gold so soon after winning the belt at Bound For Glory.

Our Predictions:

Sarah Dennis: Johnny Impact

Dave Burston: Brian Cage

Rory Bailey: Johnny Impact

Overall: Johnny Impact (2-1)

Impact Knockouts Championship - Special Guest Referee: Gail Kim

Tessa Blanchard (Champion) vs. Taya Valkryrie

Tessa and Taya have been going back and forth since Tessa stole a victory to defend the title against Taya at Bound For Glory. Both women are in their prime. The addition of Impact Hall of Famer Gail Kim as a special guest referee should hopefully ensure we get a true winner between these two.

Our Predictions:

Sarah Dennis: Taya Valkryrie

Dave Burston: Tessa Blanchard

Rory Bailey: Tessa Blanchard

Overall: Tessa Blanchard (2-1)

Impact Wrestling World Tag Team Championship

LAX (Champions) vs. The Lucha Bros

Going into this, LAX (Santana and Ortiz) are officially the longest reigning tag team champions in Impact history so that should tell you all you need to know about the champions. The Lucha Bros (Pentagon and Rey Fenix) have been on fire since joining the Impact roster (with Pentagon also capturing the Impact World Championship briefly in 2018), making this bout pretty unpredicatble.

Our Predictions:

Sarah Dennis: Lucha Bros

Dave Burston: Lucha Bros

Rory Bailey: LAX

Overall: Lucha Bros (2-1)

Ultimate X Match for the vacant Impact Wrestling X-Division Championship

Jake Christ vs. Ethan Page vs. Rich Swann vs. Trey Miguel

The X-Division has long been a staple of Impact, harking back to the early years in the asylum, so it's fitting that the vacant championship should be contested in an Ultimate X match tonight. All four competitors have the style and talent to hang in this match-up, making this an incredibly unpredictable contest

Our Predictions:

Sarah Dennis: Rich Swann

Dave Burston: Rich Swann

Rory Bailey: Trey Miguel

Overall: Rich Swann (2-1)

Monster's Ball Match

Eli Drake vs. Abyss

Another match type that used to be an early feature in the asylum is the monster's ball match, mostly featuring Abyss. We've recently seen Eli Drake go on a mission to end "Hardcore" wrestling by becoming more and more "Hardcore" himself and have seen ECW legends, Tommy Dreamer and Raven, appear on the road to Homecoming. With Abyss now being in the Hall of Fame and Eli looking to make a name for himself, this match can easily go either way

Our Predictions:

Sarah Dennis: Abyss

Dave Burston: Abyss

Rory Bailey: Eli Drake

Overall: Abyss (2-1)

Falls Count Anywhere Match

Moose vs. Eddie Edwards

This has probably been Impact's most intense and personal rivalries of 2018 between two former best friends who make better enemies. We've seen these two go at it at Bound for Glory and at the Impact vs. the UK event but the score has never truly felt settled. Homecoming seems as good a place as any to do just that.

Our Predictions:

Sarah Dennis: Eddie Edwards

Dave Burston: Eddie Edwards

Rory Bailey: Eddie Edwards

Overall: Eddie Edwards (3-0)

Allie and Su Yung vs. Kiera Hogan and Jordynne Grace

At Bound for Glory, Allie took a trip to the underworld to save the soul of her friend from the undead bride, Su Yung. Seriously. After seeming victorious she started to change and has devolved into a new, darker persona and aligned with her former tormentor. With the recently debuting Grace looking to make an "Impact", this should certainly be "one to watch".

Our Predictions:

Sarah Dennis: Allie and Su Yung

Dave Burston: Allie and Su Yung

Rory Bailey: Hogan and Grace

Overall: Allie and Su Yung (2-1)

Final Thoughts

Dave Burston: The match of the night should be the monsters ball match but I'm also loving the Allie and Su Yung storyline - Tessa and Taya could also be a showstealer. Genuinley can'y wait for this, excitement level is at 8.5/10

Sarah Dennis: I'm very excited for Tessa vs Taya but I think the tag title match should be the match of the night. Unlike Dave, I'm over the Allie and Yung thing now.

Rory Bailey: Looking at the card, there isn't a single match on here that shouldn't deliver. I'm personally looking forward to seeing what Trey Miguel and Ethan Page can bring to the X-Division and whether or not Raven and Dreamer put in an appearance at the Monster's Ball

Lovin' the preview guys. I'm going with Cage (so that Impact getas an automatic new main eventer), Eli (so Abyss can retire), Lucha Bros (so LAX can split/get renamed because of the Konnan factor), Taya (due to Gail), Rich Swann, Su Yung and Allie (and shame on you Sarah for being over it!!!) and Moose because Moose is the future
