On Sunday, October 14, Impact Wrestling presents one of its biggest events of the year, Bound For Glory. For this week's edition of King Rorster's Court, I figured I'd run through the match card and offer my thoughts, predictions and excitement levels.
Matt Sydal and Ethan Page vs. Rich Swann and a mystery tag partner
This is a very difficult one to predict. On one hand, Ethan Page and Matt Sydal could do with the win given that Page has only recently joined the company BUT as Swann's got a mystery partner, the same could potentially be said of Swann's team. With regards to the mystery partner himself, I've heard several rumours but who I'd like to see appear would easily have to be Chris Jericho but I'd also be happy if this was Chris Sabin's way of returning to the company (Sabin recently appeared at the BCW show that was in conjunction with Impact so it's well within the realms of possibility). I love Sydal and Swann and have enjoyed every interaction they've had so far so I'm tremendously looking forward to this match.
Result Prediction: Rich Swann and Chris Sabin (or Jericho) to win
Excitement Level: 9/10
Knockout Championship Match: Tessa Blanchard (Champion) vs. Taya Valkyrie
I think one of the most appealing aspects of this years BFG is that it's damn difficult to predict who's going to win in any match. With this one, I can see Tessa picking up the win in order to continue her streak as the focal point of the Knockouts Division but I can also see Taya picking up the win if they want to go the route of having Taya and Johnny Impact winning gold to make history (as their recent press release has stated).
Result Prediction: Tessa Blanchard to retain
Excitement Level: 8/10
Eddie Edwards vs. Moose
Probably the match that I'm looking forward to the most. I've had the good fortune of being able to interview Eddie three times (two of which being in person) and Moose two times (as well as being introduced to him backstage at the Impact vs UK show last month) so on a personal level I have been following both of these guy's careers. This rivalry has been incredibly personal so far, so I'm expecting a very-intense back-and-forth beatdown for Bound For Glory. Either one of these guys could pick up the win convincingly, I think it just depends on what's next for the title scene after the event.
Result Prediction: Eddie Edwards
Excitement Level: 10/10
Six Man Tag Team Match: oVe (Dave Christ, Jake Christ and Sami Callaghan) vs. Fenix, Pentagon Jr and X-Division Champion, Brian Cage
I'm looking forward to this but my only complaint about the card is part of this match. Brian Cage has been building up momentum since he debuted and is the current X-Division Champion, so I'm a little disappointed to see him being booked in a six-man tag match instead of defending the title. Either way, I still expect this to be a fantastic match.
Result Prediction: Cage picks up the deciding Pinfall.
Excitement Level: 7/10
Concrete Jungle Death Match: LAX (Santana, Ortiz and Konnan) vs. The OGz (Homicide, King and Hernandez)
I have very high expectations for this match. The current generation of LAX have quickly become one of the best tag teams in the business and the OGz are regarded as one of the best tag teams of all time, throw in Konnan and King and we should have an instant classic. I can see either team winning this one depending on where the company want them to go from here.
Result Prediction: LAX pick up the win to end their feud
Excitement Level: 10/10
Impact Wrestling World Heavyweight Championship Match: Austin Aries (Champion) vs. Johnny Impact
Aries has always been fantastic and Johnny Impact is someone that everyone expected to be a world champion by now, so this match could easily go either way. As a long time fan of the former Nitro/Morrision/Mundo, I hope Johnny gets his big moment but at the same time, Austin Aries has been carrying the World title scene all year so it would be nice to see him win too. I think, ultimately, the biggest indicator would be if Taya picks up the win over Tessa earlier in the evening. If that happens then I can see Mr and Mrs Impact walking out with the gold.
Result Prediction: Winner and New Impact World Heavyweight Champion, Johnny Impact
Excitement Level: 10/10
