Crunchyroll and Adult Swim have teamed together for a new anime project named Fena: Pirate Princess, the announcement was made during Adult Swim’s first ever convention this past weekend. Japanese anime studio Production I.G will be overseeing the animation and direction of the series. Kazato Houtman has been chosen to direct the completely original project that Adult Swim and Cruchyroll have developed. The series will be a have a 12 episode run that is due to Stream on Crunchyroll as well as airing on Toonami next year.
The story is about a young orphan girl named Fena, who grows up stuck on Island owned by the British Empire, destined to be oppressed and used up by the empires soldiers. Fena dreams of more and wishes to escape the Island, when she learns of her mysterious past she will look to break free the chains of bondage, to forge her own identity and discover more of her past. She will ally her self with a rag tag misfit crew to find out about the one clue she has, “Eden”. She will set sail for adventure and Discovery.
This is not the first original series that Crunchyroll and Adult Swim have collaborated on as they have previously worked together on a Blade Runner Anime series based on the Blade Runner movies and inspired by the more recent Blade Runner 2049. In 2015 the anime streaming giant Crucnhyroll announced its Cruchyroll Original lines and have since worked on and co-produced over 60 anime series, including such hits as Rising of the Shield Hero and recent hits In/Specetre, Tower of God and this summer’s blockbuster God Of High School. Adult Swim are most well known for the adult cartoon series’ that include, Rick and Morty, Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Robot chicken, but have also provided an outlet for many Anime series to the western audiences.
