On Sunday the 10th of November, I took a trip to the Derby Theatre with my 7 year old son - Reuben - to see the latest stage show from Count Arthur Strong.
First; a bit of background. I've been a fan of Count Arthur since around halfway through his first TV series - the show was co-written by Graham Lineman, which is enough for me to try any TV series out. I was instantly hooked. Since then, in the age of digital streaming, I had ensured I watched every episode of Count Arthur Strong as it aired. Something that I rarely do for any TV program. This show is something that I can happily enjoy with my son, so for his 7th Birthday I got the pair of us tickets to see Count Arthur Strong's "Is There Anybody Out There?"
We were not in the slightest bit disappointed. The show was an enjoyable experience and Count Arthur was on top form. I'd been to see him 2 years prior at Weston Super Mare for his "Sound of Mucus" show which was so good that I didn't think it could be topped but fortunately it was!
With the tour being on-going I'd rather not post any spoilers as I would emplor everyone to catch this where possible (I'm currently hoping to get a shift swapped so I can see it again in Chesterfield on the 28th of November!)
I'd also like to point out what a delight the actor who portrays (and created) Count Arthur, Steve Delaney, is. At the previous show he made time to meet everyone that waited after the show and signed any merchandise and took photos and did the same at this one so both myself and my son now have photos with the legend himself. Not only that but when I'd mentioned the previous show I'd been to he commented about a gentleman that had to be escorted out (something I'd witnessed at that show too) showing that despite the amount of tours and shows he's done since, he still makes a point of remembering and enjoying each show.
This show gets an easy 5 out of 5 from me and I will gladly be attending the next tour. Count Arthur Strong provides something that is sorely missed from most comedies these days; Good, wholesome, comedy that can be enjoyed at all ages.
