An Interview with Shauna Shay (The Six Step Process)

The Six-Step Process is a regular interview that we ran on both the Team Venom website and Team Venom Magazine and will run on this website on a regular basis. Basically we ask the same 6 questions in a kind of “quick-fire” interview with a random top independent talent. This week’s 6-Step is with one of the UK’s top up-and-coming female competitors, Shauna Shay (Real Name; Shauna Martin).

1. What got you into wrestling?

Wrestling gripped me at a young age, I think I must have been about 8 or 9 and just happened to switch to WWE one day, I know that Stone Cold Steve Austin was the first wrestler I watched, I wish I could remember the match.

I can't quite remember what first triggered me to start wrestling as I am quite a shy person. I was 19 and had just started using the gym. I realised I needed a challenge and something to work towards, being a wrestling fan I thought this would be the best option, I was instantly hooked and the rest as they say is history.

2. What’s been your favourite experience so far?

I am still quite new to wrestling, so I don't have many extraordinary experiences, I loved being part of LCW Roses, because I got to work with some of the UK's best female wrestler, my favourite match there was against Carmel Jacob, I had all my family in the audience cheering me on and it was such a surreal experience.

3. Where has been your favourite place to work so far?

At the minute I have not worked at many promotions, so don't feel I can answer this question. I love LCW though, the crowd is such a mixture of people, but mainly kids. The atmosphere backstage as well is great, I have trained with these guys for just over 3 years and they are like family to me. When I had my knee injury which has held me back for 2 years the support they gave me was incredible and our head trainer Joseph Connors made sure I still had a spot on the show, whether it was an angle or helping out to ref matches.

4. What would be your dream scenario?

I think the same dream as everyone in this business, I'd love to do this full time, obviously getting snapped up by the major companies is a goal, but right now I just want to get back to wrestling after my injury.

5. Who have been your favourite people to work with?

At the minute I've had an ongoing feud with 'The Living Dead Girl' Felony, which I have enjoyed so much, she has such a unique character and it's nice to get creative.

6. What does the future hold for you?

Short term, I just need to get rid of some ring rust, I had my first match back for 2 years last month and I know there is so much for me to work on, however I hope in a few years time I'll be able to get my name on the Brit Wres circuit a bit more.
