The Six-Step Process is a regular interview that we ran on both the Team Venom website and Team Venom Magazine and will run on this website on a regular basis. Basically we ask the same 6 questions in a kind of “quick-fire” interview with a random top independent talent. This week’s 6-Step is with one of the US indie scene’s top up-and-comers, Rick Rekon.
1. What got you into wrestling?
I'd have to say turning on the TV one night and seeing the program between Edge and the Undertaker in SmackDown leading up to Wrestlemania 24. It was just so engaging and the story pulled me in. Those two have both been influences since then. I started lifting and training and built myself into the Super Soldier.
2. What’s been your favourite experience so far?
I have had so many already it's hard to pick just one. I would have to say overall was working Shockwave the Robot two nights in a row in Maine. We all met in/around Albany, NY and drove the 7 hours up. We worked one of the best matches I've had so far in a ring a ring with loose ropes with a mat that was made for a boxing ring. Stayed in a hotel with 500 lb Baby Gooey, Christina Marie, and a powered down Shockwave. Next day had another awesome match, but on the drive home got stuck in a snowstorm, making the trip back to Albany drag out to 9 hours. But I wouldn't trade it for anything.
3. Where has been your favourite place to work so far?
Best place would have to be XWA in Albany, NY, run by Gorgeous Jerry Idol. Excellent talent, true professionals. Got a lot of shows coming up, I'd recommend them to anybody.
4. What would be your dream scenario?
The dream would be to work for ROH, Impact, and NJPW, sign to NXT/WWE, and hold world championships in all promotions. That shows that are the man, you are who those companies are going with, those are the platforms to make the most money, impact and way to push your brand. And to work with some of the absolute best in the world.
5. Who have been your favourite people to work with?
So far I'd have to say Shockwave again. Hold for hold, shot for shot.
6. What does the future hold for you?
The immediate future is running through whatever competition is given to me. I may high five fans, but it doesn't mean I won't break people between those ropes. If they're looking for a fight, I'll give them a war. As far as down the road, the top of the mountain of sports entertainment is my end goal. So to anybody reading this, just be ready: prepare for Rekon, prepare for war
