At the 2017 London Film and Comic Con, Team Venom’s Rory Bailey caught up with the star of Power Rangers Turbo and Power Rangers in Space, Selwyn Ward. Selwyn played T.J. Johnson who was the second Red Turbo Ranger and the team’s leader.
You took over from “Tommy” who was one of the most popular Power Rangers of all time as the second Red Turbo Ranger. How did it feel for you to have to step into that position?
I felt like there was a lot of pressure on me and I kind of had an idea of what I was stepping into. I think, at the end of the day I just tried my best to be my own man and be my own character and I think that really worked. There were people around me that wanted me to do what he did but I think that sticking true to myself is what actually helped me be a very popular Power Ranger also.
What’s been your most memorable experience on the show?
Probably the very first day that I walked on the set for my very first scene. When we finished, the crew clapped so that was a very welcoming experience and I felt that I was a part of something that was going to be huge
Have you had chance to see the new Power Rangers film and what are your views on it?
Not yet, but I do feel like it’s a different thing. I don’t feel like it’s really attached necessarily to the series. I know it’s got the same name and some of the same music but I just feel like it’s a completely different thing, like the movie can pick up a whole different crowd.
