An Interview with Johnny Malloy (The Six Step Process)

The Six-Step Process is a regular interview that we ran on both the Team Venom website and Team Venom Magazine and will run on this website on a regular basis. Basically we ask the same 6 questions in a kind of “quick-fire” interview with a random top independent talent. This week’s 6-Step is with one of the US indie scene’s top up-and-comers, Johnny Malloy.

1. What got you into wrestling?

My earliest memory is sitting with my Father watching the Undertaker vs. Undertaker on pay-per-view. He introduced me to wrestling. Turns out my Grandfather was really into wrestling and introduced it to my Father. It's turning into somewhat of a family tradition.

2. What’s been your favourite experience so far?

I've been asked this question a few times and every so often I try to give a varied response. This time I'll say it was this crazy weekend I had about a year ago. I ended up wrestling in Ohio on Friday, Saturday in West Virginia, and Sunday in New York. It was a crazy amount of travel for my old car, and it was just my Wife and I. We ate a ton of really unhealthy food, got very little sleep, and had a vastly different experience each day. Usually I'm brought in to be the big bad villain that the crowds going to root for their guy to win... but Ohio through me a curveball and wanted me to show a different side of me. It was a unique feeling at the Rockstar Pro arena. A springboard superman bunch, a beard-crippler-crossface, and an arena chanting "PLEASE COME BACK", really made it a night to remember. All-and-All just a great Wrestling weekend I'll always remember.

3. Where has been your favourite place to work so far?

I had a lot of fun with my time with EWA in Maryland, but it ended on such a sour note. Always had a good time at FTW and NYWC, and I can not leave out my two homes RAMPAGE PRO WRESTLING and the BRONX WRESTLING FEDERATION. It's tough to pick a favorite, but the SWA revolution will always hold a special place in my heart.

4. What would be your dream scenario?

There's a lot of guys I'd love to get in there with, but my Dream Scenario isn't a match... my dream scenario is a contract. A contract that means wrestling full time. Being able to give this 100% of my attention. Imagine what the #BeardVillain could accomplish!

5. Who have been your favourite people to work with?

Alexander James is solid. I had a couple matches with him that really stick out to me. Bronco Internacional was great to work with.... and I know this may drop some jaws, but Trigger is starting to stand out as one of my favorite guys to wrestle... so far this year I've been dropping him on his head in a lot of states.

6. What does the future hold for you?

I want to keep moving forward. I'm looking to get an opportunity in one of the bigger promotions. Ranking in the PWI TOP 500 would be fun. It's just about being better than I was yesterday. I'm 29 years old and I feel like I have a lot of years left in me, so let's see where we can take this.
