The Six-Step Process is a regular interview that we ran on both the Team Venom website and Team Venom Magazine and will run on this website on a regular basis. Basically we ask the same 6 questions in a kind of “quick-fire” interview with a random top independent wrestling talent. Initially, we used this as a way to feature top British talent, but going forward we will also be using this to showcase top international talent also, like this week's guest; top rated US referee, John Guzzardo.
1. What got you into wrestling?
I always liked the idea of everything that came with pro wrestling. The traveling, meeting fans, recognition and meeting those with the same goals as myself.
2. What's been your favourite experience so far?
My favourite experience so far? That's a tough one. Quite a few to choose from, between my time as a wrestler and a referee. I'd say being booked on shows as the same guys I watched growing up, and being able to pick their brain for advice. The stories these guys have and the knowledge those who have been there, done that is priceless.
3. Where has been your favourite place to work?
My favourite place to work, I will separate in 2 categories. First city. I'd have to say the Phoenix(Arizona) metro area, because it gave me my start in officiating. The fans there were die hards. My other city so far, and it was only once is Brooklyn. That crowd is intense and they're not afraid to speak their mind. I look forward to refereeing in Queens, N.Y. this Saturday.
As far as promotions, I would say The MFPW, IWF (Arizona), & Evolve. All 3 of them have provided great learning experiences, as well as great talent to work with.
4. What would be your dream scenario/match?
My dream scenario, I guess would be to officiate at Wrestlemania. I would also like to officiate in Europe and Asia. That sites and people I would meet, I would remember it for a lifetime.
5. Who have been your favourite people to work with?
When it comes down to my favourite people to work with, I have to start with the roster at The MFPW. A lot of home grown talent, and all have a the ability to make a name for themselves. The Real Life Heelz(Punisher Martinez, Matthew Riddle, and Q.T. Marshall), Leon St. Giovanni, Clutch Adams, Nick Comoroto, Cody Vance, and even manager Rico De La Vega are a talented bunch.
Elsewhere, I've enjoyed working with The Monster Abyss, Chris Sabin, Ethan Page, Joey Ryan and a few others as well.
6. What does the future hold for John Guzzardo?
My future is based on making the right decisions. I feel like if stick with Danny Cage and The Monster Factory, I'll be on the right path. I would recommend this training facility to anyone, looking to start or better themselves. I hope to referee for ROH this year. And hopefully TNA or WWE won't be far behind.
