The Six-Step Process is a regular interview that we ran on both the Team Venom website and Team Venom Magazine and will run on this website on a regular basis. Basically we ask the same 6 questions in a kind of “quick-fire” interview with a random top independent talent. This week’s 6-Step is with one of the UK's top up-and-comers, Jack Cave.
1. What got you into wrestling?
Ever since I can remember I've been into wrestling. I always seem to have been that kid who was always trying to explain to others why it's so great.
I grew up with the toys and the ring, playing literally for hours with them. I had 2 tapes when I was a kid, Royal Rumble '97 and In Your House: Beware Of Dog, we didn't have Sky growing up so that was pretty much all I had. I watched them constantly, Stone Cold Vs Savio Vega, strap match. Magnificent stuff!
As for me actually wrestling, I owe that to Sam Goodison. He repeatedly told me I NEEDED to do it. After a few failed attempts I fell in love with it as much as I loved playing with the toys and watching the tapes! Without him, there would be no Jack Cave.
2. What’s been your favorite experience that wrestling has given you so far?
For somebody who has only been doing it a year, I've had my fair share of great moments. I saw that Hustle Malone spoke about T-Bone. I'd have to agree with him that working with him was an absolute pleasure. The guy knows so much. He's the full package. I literally could listen to him talk all day. A true fountain of knowledge.
I've also been ringside for matches involving Martin Kirby and El Ligero. I once got double chokeslammed by the two of them. That was one of those moments which hurt like hell but was amazing at the same time. Both those guys also speak so much sense. Ligero has provided so many penny drop moments for me it's been unreal.
Back when I very first started, I had my first ever match in EBW, a Sheffield based promotion, it was at the Tramlines festival. They put a megaphone in my hand and we all went out in the streets of Sheffield in our wrestling gear to promote the show. I got removed from McDonald's whilst people were filming me yap on through the megaphone. I love doing daft stuff to get the business recognised - we actually got people following us who came into the show, so it worked!
3. Where has been your favourite place to work so far?
My main two promotions are HOPE and Phoenix wrestling. Anyone who is anyone knows HOPE and Phoenix is really on fire at the minute. Two great promotions that it's truly a honour to work for. The main aim for anyone is to get recognition for being good and eventually for being great. To work for as many companies as possible and to work with as many different people as possible. The more you work the more you learn. That's what I want to do. Everybody in life dreams about doing what they love for a job, this is my opportunity to do just that.
4. What would be your dream scenario?
The two things I said when I started were "I want to wrestle T-Bone and I want to wrestle Grado" I've already done one, the other would be a true pleasure. Grado gets a reaction that literally makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I think that between us we could really make something great happen in the ring. His character work inspires me. I'd love to be as hated as he is loved.
In wrestling, though, dream scenarios pop into your head every day. I'll watch, for example, a Chuck Taylor match and it'll be my dream to wrestle him. Then I'll watch a Bubblegum match and it'll be my dream to wrestle him. The dreams never stop. It's making them reality that matters!
5. Who have been your favourite people to work with?
You really shouldn't let T-Bone read these articles, Hustle and I will make his ego massive! As I previously said, it was a true pleasure to work with him. Great performer. I would 100% love to go at it again with a bit more time given to us. Last time I faced him, it was as a punishment for me being too cocky, i ended up with a ring bell wrapped around my head! Do not cross T-Bone!!
Working with Flex Buffington, JG Nash and Dave Rayne all at once was an experience I will never forget. When a wrestling match Includes a Human Centipede, you know you are winning in life.
But taking it back to a more personal level. Working with my friends in a group called 1 Vision is probably the most fun I've had. Sam Goodison, Ryan Lee, Radu Bulat and Nick Mason are all great guys and we literally went out and wound everybody up as much as we could whilst making ourselves laugh as much as we could. It was great fun and some happy times!
6. What does the future hold for you?
I'd like to think the future of wrestling has room for my name in it. The more I train, the more I learn. The more I learn, the more I'll impress. The more I impress, the more chances I'll get. To be known in the world of wrestling is a true honour that I'm hoping I'll achieve one day. Even if it is for being that gobby big bugger who wears pink and cheats a lot. I do this to be able to look back one day and be proud that I made my mark. From the kid who watched the tapes to the man who's on them. That makes me proud.
