We're less than one week into 2019 and there has been some huge
developments in the world of professional wrestling, namely the announcement of "All Elite Wrestling". AEW is owned by Tony Khan, the owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars American football team and will feature Cody Rhodes as the Executive Vice President of the promotion. So far Cody, The Young Bucks, Hangman Page, Frankie Kazarian, Scorpio Sky, Christopher Daniels, Brandi Rhodes and Britt Baker have all been confirmed as being a part of the roster and both Chris Jericho and Bill Goldberg have been strongly rumoured for the promotion (with Jericho recently attending a Jaguars game courtesy of Tony Khan and Goldberg suddenly following all of the AEW accounts on Twitter). So with that being said, I figured I'd take a look at some of the current free agents out there who I'd like to see AEW snap up.
Zack Sabre Jnr
My fellow contributor, James Biddles, actually suggested this one and I'm inclined to agree with him. Sabre is one of the very best on the independent scene right now and was expected to sign with the WWE following their Cruiserweight Classic tournament the other year, only for Zack to turn them down.
PAC/Neville
The longest reigning WWE Cruiserweight Champion in recent history and former NXT Champion (while called Adrian Neville) is currently one of the hottest free agents in professional wrestling and someone that I can see easily joining up with AEW given The Young Bucks publicly trying to get him involved in The Elite a while ago. PAC is the sort of person you can build a division around.
CM Punk
This one's a bit of a pipe dream but also a potential reality as Cody and the Bucks were trying to get him for "All In" last year and with his UFC career not taking off it would be good to see one of the best talkers in the industry (and one of the longest reigning WWE Champions of all-time) make a return to the business that was once his life
AJ Lee
If they get Punk, they should also sign his wife. 100%. AJ Lee was one of the most featured and charasmatic "divas" on the WWE roster during her short run there and, at that time, became the longest reigning Divas Champion in history (a record that was broken as soon as possible after she left).
Jason David Frank
While not known as a wrestler, the former Power Ranger star is undefeated in MMA and about to make his pro wrestling debut in a couple of month's time. Both JDF and CM Punk had been having a bit of a rivalry on social media a few years back where the pair had wanted to fight each other in either an MMA or wrestling ring, so this could actually be close to happening!
Austin Aries
...Provided we get the hardworking, motivated Aries that we saw carry Impact on his back on several occasions and not the guy we saw leave Impact in one of the most unprofessional ways of all-time following the main event of Bound for Glory.
Legends Corner: Bret Hart, Mick Foley, DDP, Booker T, Scott Steiner, Rob Van Dam
Booker has recently announced a return to the ring at a non-WWE show. Bret and Foley have both been on the outs with WWE for the last year, DDP appeared at "All In", Steiner is still wrestling hear, there and everywhere and RVD has been hinting at a come back over the last couple of months. All of these guys would add some "name value" to the promotion in either an active or managerial role.
So, that's who I'd like to see sign to AEW. What about you guys? Let me know in the comments section!
All those guys would be great for Impact too...
