The Six-Step Process is a regular interview that we ran on both the Team Venom website and Team Venom Magazine and will run on this website on a regular basis. Basically we ask the same 6 questions in a kind of “quick-fire” interview with a random top independent talent. This week’s 6-Step is with one of the UK's top up-and-coming talents, Richard Healey aka Johnny Concrete.
1. What got you into wrestling?
I have been a huge fan since I was in infant school. I remember a friend of mine at the time had SummerSlam tickets for Wembley in 1992. I watched it expecting to see him at some point. That event had me hooked. The intercontinental title was the main event Bulldog with Lennox Lewis V Brett Hart was a masterclass. And Legion Of Doom on motorbikes was amazing. I left it pretty late to actually join a school though, I joined House of Pain Wrestling with Alton Thorne. Stixx debuted me at the same time as Thorne, Lucas Archer, Kyle Kingsley and a few others. My first match was against Sam Spencer.
2. What’s been your favourite experience so far?
Recently winning the United Wrestling Tag championships with Alton Thorne. It’s my first UK title we beat the Alpha Brothers in the final of United’s tag tournament.
3. Where has been your favourite place to work so far?
I love working at United Wrestling in Stoke on Trent. It’s a family atmosphere and always good fun. I’ve had the opportunity to work on a couple of HOPE shows which I always enjoy doing. House of Pain academy shows are ever growing and crowds are really good at the minute too. They’re always fun to work.
4. What would be your dream scenario?
To be involved in a match with some of the UK’S top stars. I’d like to wrestle someone like T-Bone or Dave Mastiff. I think I could learn a lot from them.
5. Who have been your favourite people to work with?
I can’t say enough good things about the Alpha Brothers. They’re great. I’m also a huge fan of Lucas Archer, he’s one to look out for in the future. The guy is very talented. My second ever match was against Joseph Conners which was a great opportunity for me. He put me at ease and I learned a tonne of stuff from him, for my money he’s the best thing in the country at the moment and it won’t be long till he’s signed up by a top company. Another lad I’ve wrestled on a couple of occasions is Gabriel Kidd it, he’s another lad with the world at his finger tips. He’s 19 years old and he’s got so much knowledge of the business it’s like he’s been doing it for ever. My best match so far was a charity match I had for the Make a Wish foundation, I wrestled Stixx, another ring veteran and my mentor, Stixx is the reason I do what I do. He gave me the knowledge and the platform. Without doubt the best academy in the UK and probably Europe. I was a pleasure to wrestle him and I’d love to do that again at some point.
6. What does the future hold for you?
I’ll continue to work hard and look to get booked on more shows. I’ve recently been booked for DOA Wrestling. I hope to get on more HOPE shows. Summer is coming and there are lots of Megaslam shows that I’d like to get on too. I’ve been booked by United Wrestling for the foreseeable future too.
