MLW #97 Recap and Review

Tonight's episode is produced by the Dynasty, so welcome consumers to most Dynastic night of wrestling in the history of TV. The group’s newest member of Dynasty, Gino El Intocable takes on a man dressed as a Dragon (Septimo Dragon). Then, the massive and vascular National Openweight Champion, Alexander Hammerstone “Meat Castle” takes on the Mexican Spaceman Areostar as he looks to launch him into orbit. Finally in the Main Event, Richard Holliday and MJF look to restore honour to the tag team championships when they defeat the Von Erichs.

Gino “El Intocable” Medina Vs Sepitmo “Not an Actual Dragon” Dragon

We get a quick look back at last month when Gino joined forces with the Dynasty whilst at the same time putting a beat down on Lucha Legend Konnan. Richard Holliday is on commentary to help support his fellow Dynasty member and Konnan accompanies Septimo to ring. The match starts off at a quick pace with Septimo flying around the ring hitting Gino with; moonsaults, dives, head scissors and huracanranas. Just a flurry of offence. Eventually after stalemate of reversals, Gino gains the upper hand, slowing the pace of the match down. Unable to put Septimo away, he turns his attention to Konnan outside the ring. This allows Spetimo to get back into the match making a comeback, however Gino is able to roll Septimo up and with a little help of his feet on the ropes, Gino is able to get the win. After the match Richard Holliday and Gino continue to assault Septimo, removing the Lucha competitors mask but Konnan is able to make the save.

This was a good Lucha style match, not amazing, but good enough. They’re both young and very athletic. Gino is a perfect fit for Dynasty. I do feel the highlight of the match was Richard Holliday on commentary, each and every week you can see how much he has improved with his promo, also the added touches with the tale of tape and ring names were hilarious.

Hype Package

Tonight's main event between MJF and Richard Holliday Vs The Von Erichs for the tag team championship. A world title championship change is all but guaranteed, as the Texas simpletons will get dominated by MJF and Holliday of the Dynasty. As the greatest tag team in history of sport will win the titles for a historic 2nd time, but first they’ll get an uplifting message from Filthy Tom Lawler.

This was just brilliant and the commentators really do sell their dis-stain for having to read this Dynasty produced segment.

Outside the Arena,

Apparently Mance Warner has not met the dress code of the Dynasty and is banned from the building, cameras are with him outside and he delivers a promo about not being allowed in. The states he’s going to get some light beers and come back, its not the last time we’ll see ol’ Mancer.

Another excellent promo from Mance Warner

National Openweight Championship Match

Champion Alexander Hammerstone Vs Aerostar

Konnan is on commentary this time, to talk about the Partnership with MLW and AAA. This match up exemplifies what the National Openweight Championship is all about, a true David Vs Goliath match up. Alexander Hammerstone having a distinct weight and strength advantage over the much Smaller Aerostar. Despite this massive advantage, it is Aerostar who uses his distinct advantage in speed and athleticism as well as the years of experience as competitor. During the opening exchanges, Hammerstone cannot get a grip on him. However once Hammerstone eventually gets a hold of him, which he does during the break, after delivering a powerbomb to the edge of the ring he is able to put his immense power on display. Aerostar keeps fighting back, Hammerstone has to remove Aerostars mask and roll him up for a three count.

This was a decent big man, small man match up and Aerostar got much more offence in than I expected, I feel Hammerstone having to resort to dirty tactics to pick up win was not needed.

Main Event

Tag Team Championship Match

Champions The Von Erichs Vs The Dynasty

Mark “Moustache Microphone Man” Haggerty, announces The Dynasty MJF and Richard Holliday, their music plays but they do not head to ring. They then Announce the Von Erichs, Ross and Marshall. As they head to the ring a couple female fans attempt to give them flowers, but out come MJF and Holliday, attacking Ross and Marshall from behind. As the Dynasty continue their assault on the Von Erichs outside the ring, eventually throwing Ross, the smaller of the Von Erichs into the ring, to get the match started.

Now with the match finally underway MJF and Holliday begin to work over Ross Von Erich, cutting of the ring with double team moves, foiling every attempt Ross makes to tag his brother Marshall. Ross finally takes advantage of the Dynasty’s show boating and tags in Marshall, he comes in as hot as barefoot stud and manages to fight off both MJF and Holliday. Hammerstone heads down to ringside as the Von Erichs take control, but Mance Warner quickly follows behind him with a chair in hand, as he lays out Hammerstone, Gino follows behind and fights Warner back stage. The distraction is enough though as MJF is left in the ring with both Ross and Marshall, as Marshall puts on the Von Erich claw. Ross comes in from behind and lifts MJF and with a claw back suplex combo, they pick up the three count. The Von Erichs retain the Tag Tem Championships.

The Dynasty work as old school heel team, with cheap tactics, double team moves and show boating. Their team work could be little crisper, but the raw talent is there and as they mature they will only get better. The Von Erichs are an excellent face team, Ross was able to give Dynasty excellent heat and Marshall is a true stud. The two teams worked excellent together and this was a great match up.

What was really good this week were all the excellent segments, from the Dynasty produced promos to the side storyline of Mance Warner was brilliant. All of the Video packages were put together well.
