I was really looking forward to covering this week’s MLW as my first article, I was really hoping for a great show to tell you guys why you should not be sleeping on the MLW product. Unfortunately that is not the show we got in fact what we got was as Jim Cornette would say a shit show, a mud show and a complete pile of garbage wrestling. I knew it was going to be a long night when I realised this was MLW’s Halloween special and for which they had made Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy F****N Havoc the executive producer of the show and so we were presented with Jimmy Havoc's Slaugher House. I’m certainly no fan of the supposed the king of the death match, its not that I hate hardcore wrestling I just think it has a place and back yard mud show wrestling is not it. Why are you trying to kill yourselves for a hand full of fans?
So This week MLW show took place in Mexico as part of their partnership with Crash Lucha Libre and as such we started the night with two Trio teams from Crash Los Haraganes vs. Triple Amenaza facing off in a six man tag match Lucha style. Let me just say, this is the worst of Lucha style wrestling, not helped by the fact the commentary team seemed to have no idea who was who and provided us with no back story given either. The match it self was just confusing with no clean tags, no idea who the legal man was at any time, then throw in the fact it was a no disqualification that lead to some of the worst of garbage wrestling I have ever seen, I actually cannot tell you who won, and to be honest I just didn’t care as I had lost all interest. Not a great way to start off the show.
I think even they knew it was bad, which why half way through we were thankfully given a break with promo for Contra Unit. Contra Unit is great faction and they delivered a great promo, hyping up the upcoming match for MLW PPV Main Event, Jacob Fatu Vs LA Park. Then after the match we were treated to very weird promo video featuring Bryan Pillman Jr. This guy is great young talent but this latest promo just made no sense at all. Following that awful promo, we were treated to another one, this time a back stage interview between Selina De La Renta and Josef Samael as they set up the next match, I just have to say, even though Selina is absolute gold, she is amazing on a promo. I feel she is definitely one of, if not the greatest heel manager of this generation, but sadly even she couldn't even save this one.
So the Next Match was a Street Fight, a Tijuana Street Fight as they were in Mexico, between El Hijlo De La Park and Josef Samael, and well I was disappointed, it was just terrible even for Garbage style hardcore wrestling! It was thankfully, mercifully short as rest of Contra Unit jumped in and they laid a beat down on El Hijlo De La Park who was then taken off in Ambulance, adding more fuel to the fire for the upcoming PPV main event where LA Park takes on Cotra Unit Destroyer, Jacob Fatu.
We had a Promo from Mance Warner, as he challenges Jimmy Havoc to a match at the upcoming PPV. And we’re not talking about just any match, but Stairway to Hell match... what ever that is. Mance Warner is a star in the making, he is brilliant in a Promo and has an old school brawler style. he seems to really connect to fans but unfortunately, I think this upcoming match with Jimmy Havoc is likely to turn into complete garbage and be another disappointment. But with any luck Mance will send Jimmy Packing and over to AEW.
Main Event time and I bet you can guess what's coming... yep that’s right, another ridiculous, No Disqualification, Triple Threat Match featuring Jimmy Havoc, Lucha Hardcore God Damian 666 and Savio Vega. The only good thing about this match was Watching Savio Vega expertly use a Kendo stick, how it should actually be used, reminding us all that he was onced the Martial Art Master Kwang in the WWE. Jimmy Havoc came away with the win after hitting the weakest looking Acid Rainmaker I’ve ever seen on Savio, he then proceeds to give a post match beatdown on Damien 666 but his son Bestia 666 came down and made the save.
Look, MLW is a good show and if your a fan of wrestling you really should check it out, It’s unfortunate this week was garbage hardcore wrestling, but what did I expect, having Jimmy F****N Havoc as the executive producer, I know it was supposed to be a Halloween Special, and I’m all for that but a full show of stupid hardcore matches is too much in my opinion. Hopefully they learn from this. 0 out of 5.
