Free Agent Jeff Cobb Shows up on AEW Dynamite

Inner Circle’s Bounty Hunter

On this past week’s AEW Dynamite it was revealed that Jericho and his Inner Circle had hired a bounty hunter to take out Jon Moxley before their match at Revolution on February 19th, it was then revealed that the bounty hunter was none other than Jeff Cobb. A match had been scheduled next week, Jeff Cobb Vs Jon Moxley, the last Dynamite show prior to Revolution. Later that night there was a post match beat down on Moxley, and after Moxley had just beaten Santana. During the beat down, Jericho and his Inner Circle viscously assault Moxley with everyone hitting him with their finishers. Jericho calls out to the back and out came Jeff Cobb, former ROH world Television Champion and NJPW Never Openweight champion. All 260lbs of Jeff Cobb heads to ring and the former Olympic wrestler hits Moxley with his Tour of Islands finisher leaving him in a heap on the floor as Jeff Cobb posed with Jericho and his Inner Circle.

Jeff Cobb AEW Future

Jeff Cobb has not officially signed with AEW and he remains a free agent, he is currently booked for ROH. At the recent Free Enterprise event he and Dan Maff defeated Lethal and Gresham in a proven ground match and have earned themselves a future tag team title shot, he is also currently booked for Supercard of Honour in tag match along side Dan Maff against Bullet Club members Kenta and Taiji Ishimori on April 4th. It is believed that AEW contacted Jeff Cobb directly as free agent for the two dates, this week and next weeks match with Jon Moxley. It would seem that Jeff Cobb is looking to remain a free agent currently, so he will be able to work with the likes of ROH, NJPW, AEW and whoever he chooses too, maybe NWA next.

Opinion

I am big fan of Jeff Cobb and despite being much bigger and heavier than most of AEW’s roster he would be a great addition for them, he is big guy who can throw just about anyone around the ring, despite his size he is also a very athletic, able to perform his fair share of flips and dives. I think Jeff Cobb will remain a free agent until he has worked all his current booked dates with ROH, with Marty Scurll now booking ROH, and his relationship with the executives at AEW they won’t want sour any type of future working relationship by pulling him from those current ROH dates. I do believe he will likely sign with AEW once those dates are completed and likely will have a similar deal to Jon Moxley, as he has recently spoke of his desire to continue working with NJPW. As they contacted Jeff Cobb directly rather than speaking with ROH shows that despite Scurlls appointment there does not seem to be any deal currently that could see them sharing talent.
